Week 2 Additional Design Reading

Chapter 2: Don't Make Me Think

This book is a standard for commercial web designers and people concerned about usability. It is a very easy read and a nice "common sense" approach. Mastering the concepts in this book is much like learning English grammar, once you have these basics you can start writing poetry, but write poetry before you have these basics and well, you know what happens. :)

Chapter 2 introduces scanning, satisficing, and muddling through. It is seven, small, graphic intensive, white-space loaded printed pages :)

It is a nice compliment to Nielsen's Web Usability and the more recent Prioritizing Web Usability, which we will discuss in class. Visit Nielsen's site, Useit.com to appreciate the comic below.
